Es calcula que ChatGPT, el popular xatbot d'OpenAI, va arribar als 100 milions d'usuaris actius mensuals al gener, només dos mesos després del seu llançament, la qual cosa la converteix en l'aplicació de consum de més ràpid creixement de la història, segons un estudi d'UBS. Aquest creixement fulgurant ha creat incertesa en moltes persones i governs, fins a tal punt que es va elaborar una carta oberta per aturar el desenvolupament i implementació de la IA generativa, signada per 1300 personalitats, entre els quals Elon Musk i Steve Wozniak,. Es tracta d’un clar exemple en el que la tecnologia va pel davant dels aspectes regulatoris.
A nivell europeu s’ha creat la IA Act. La Llei d'IA és una proposta de llei europea sobre intel·ligència artificial (IA), i assigna les aplicacions de la IA a tres categories de risc. EUA ha desenvolupat un avantprojecte de Carta de drets de la IA, en el que és defineix un conjunt de cinc principis i pràctiques associades per ajudar a guiar el disseny, l'ús i el desplegament de sistemes automatitzats per protegir els drets del públic nord-americà en l'era de la intel·ligència artificial. La Xina ha prohibit el ChatGPT i ha desenvolupat una reglamentació de 20 articles (link a la notícia en xinès, cal posar traductor) amb la finalitat de regular el desenvolupament i l'aplicació estandarditzada de la tecnologia d'intel·ligència artificial generativa.
